20.10.2002 The percent of employed redundant
military servicemen out of registered in
the Resettlement Centers is 61.7 % A sociological representative survey was conducted
in August - September 2002 by the Sova Harriṣ́ Agency. A
stochastic sample from the entire number of individuals, registered
with Resettlement centers was surveyed. The maximum error of the
sample is within 3% for a relative share of 50% at a 95% guarantee
probability. It showed that towards September 2002 61.7 % of the
investigated servicemen are placed at work. The survey revealed that the reasons for leaving
the armed forces ware: staff cuts (in 47% of all cases), retirement
(31%), own free will (over 10%) and other reasons (between 10% and
11%). The survey demonstrated full consensus (96 %) among
the respondents on the need for NGOs like the Resource Center
Foundation (RCF) in assisting re-adaptation of former servicemen to
life outside the Bulgarian Army. 80% of the polled stated that they received
entirely or partly practical assistance and support by the
Resettlement Centers’ (RC) Coordinators. Their work was evaluated
as necessary and efficient. Respondents evaluated the work of RC’s
Coordinators using a six point marking system by 6 (A) – 33%, by 5
(B) - 38% and by 4 (C) - 23%. Summarized data shows that several lines for
seeking assistance by former servicemen were emerging, along which
they had already received assistance from RCs employees. Those were:
identifying specific workplaces (36%) – quite understandable a
fact, having in mind that finding new employment was the most
serious problem among those who had left the BA, referral to
professional and/or motivational consultations (34%), preparation of
documents, required for employment (31%), psychological consultation
(30%), consultation in the process of selecting a job (27%) and
attending a motivational course (21%). |
