Resource Center Foundation

OWN PROJECTS:

Training of community centers /chitalishta/

Community centers in Bulgaria /3600 according to the Ministry of Culture/ have 150 years of history and present a unique civil society structure.

The project aims at training people working in community centers on the basic skills for managing these centers as unique non-governmental organizations, having a property of their own, as well as the necessary human recourse, but with lack of professional experience. They can be a meeting point for the development of the third sector and the civil society in the small town.

Community centers, as stated, possess a great potential but nevertheless need an assistance in keeping and bringing again into life national traditions, in mediating the social enterprising and local development, in conducting the dialogue between citizens and the authority, as well as in providing a public access to contemporary information technologies.

“Community Center World” Program of the Recourse Center Foundation in Bulgaria started in 1999 with the financial support of Open Society Foundation after the pilot project “Educational Training for Bulgarian Community Clubs. Establishment of Community Center Funds”. Following the project, in the end of 2000 the Recourse Center Foundation established a new non-governmental structure: National Community Center Net.

NGO Governance Practices Research

The project is a pilot one implemented with the cooperation of National Center for Nonprofit Boards. The project aims at researching the development of governance practices in the third sector in Bulgaria, which is of great importance for the donors as well as for the development of successful governance practices, the goal being to create a sustainability in the sector. Approximately 3000 NGOs will participate in the research work, including community centers, school boards, professional organizations.
